Evangel University Artist Series to feature composer Jason Bahr

Composer Dr. Jason Bahr will be the featured artist in the Evangel University Artist Series at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 18, in the Barnett Fine Arts Recital Hall.

“Paraclete,” a newly commissioned work for violin by Dr. Bahr, which is a three-faceted exploration of attributes of the Holy Spirit, will receive its world premiere.

Also to be premiered will be the second movement of a work entitled “Mysteries of Light,” with the individual movement title of “Water into Wine.”  Other works of Dr. Bahr to be featured are “Three Preludes” and a DVD presentation of his choral work “Golgotha.”

Lisa Joseph, freelance musician and violin instructor of Pittsburgh, Pa., will be performing the works. Joseph received her Master of Music in violin performance at Duquesne University.

Melinda Smashey Jones, professor of music at Southwest Baptist University, will provide piano accompaniment. Jones received her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

There is no charge for admission, and the public is invited to attend.

About Jason Bahr:

Dr. Jason Bahr, originally from Kansas City, KS, obtained his bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, which included study at Kingston University in London, England. He received both his Master of Music and Doctor of Music from Indiana University-Bloomington.

Dr. Bahr has received more than 200 performances of his works in 30 states and nine foreign countries. His works have received numerous awards. He is a member of Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC), Society of Composers Incorporated (SCI), and ASCAP.

He is currently an assistant professor of music theory and composition at Ohio Wesleyan University.
