Free concert and blood drive at Shrine Mosque on August 6th promises more bands, more prizes and more fun
July 30, 2010– Last year, Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) introduced the area to a whole new way to save lives. The Bloody Battle of the Bands was a huge success, combining a rock festival featuring some of the area’s newest musical talent with a blood drive that netted over 170 donations. This year, the event moves downtown to the ballroom at the Shrine Mosque on August 6th. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Participants in the drive will vote for their favorite band by giving blood for their favorite group. Area bands will compete for more than $3,000.00 in prizes, including studio recording time and musical equipment. “This event is geared towards area teens, and is clearly the biggest rock concert of the summer,” said Jeff Houghton, CBCO recruiter and event organizer. “It’ll be a great opportunity for young people to gather with their friends, hear some great music and do something really meaningful for the community.”
Bands participating in Bloody Battle of the Bands include Ambrister, Arrayed in White, Ben Frisch Trio, Brickyard, Message and Forum, The Lonely Apache and Punting Baxter. A special appearance will also be made by Berch. Blood donors are encouraged to sign up online to secure a donation time at www.cbco.org.
The second annual Bloody Battle of the Bands and Blood Drive is sponsored by Hiland Dairy, Pepsi, TAG Magazine, Gillioz Theater, The Skinny Improv, Jimmy John’s, Pellegrino School of Music, Hoover Music, Platinum Plus Productions and Amanda Maher Photography.
Blood donations to CBCO go to help area patients at nine northwest Arkansas hospitals and twenty-eight more healthcare facilities across the area. It takes around 275 blood donations each day to meet the needs of local patients. To find out how easy it is to save lives in the Ozarks, call 1-800-280-5337, or log on to www.cbco.org. On behalf of patients across the region, thank you for giving life to your community.
